Course Syllabus

Welcome to Algebra

Hello, my name is Ashley Allen and I look forward to having an awesome school year.

Classroom Rules/Procedures

There are some rules and procedures that have been established to ensure that this classroom will be a safe learning environment for each and every student. I expect each and every student to uphold these rules and procedures so that this will be a great school year.

Rules:

  1. Follow directions: listen carefully and do what is asked of you the first time given
  2. Be responsible: have the required material and be on time
  3. Be respectful: treat others like you want to be treated; show respect to teacher, peers, and this room
  4. Be on task: working on school related material, taking notes, and using computers only for school related projects
  5. Be safe: keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself
  6. Appropriate noise level: inside voices, silent when asked

Procedures:

  1. Entering the classroom and bellringers – Do not enter the class until previous class is dismissed. When you enter the classroom, walk in quietly. Go directly to get your assigned calculator, put up your phone, go to your seat, get out your materials, and get to work on your bellringer assignment. You will have FIVE minutes to complete your work. The bellringers are graded on a weekly basis. They are turned in weekly through Canvas.
  2. Leaving my classroom – I will not allow you to leave my classroom unless you are called out.
  3. Tardy – All tardiness will be handled in the front office by Ms. Margo. You will only be admitted if you have an admit slip from her.
  4. End of period class dismissal – The bell does not dismiss my class. I dismiss my class. First make sure that you have returned your calculator to the correct slot. Next, make sure that there is no debris on the floor, and you have all your belongings. Whenever I dismiss the class, you may exit my classroom. I do not allow you to stand at the door waiting for class to be dismissed. You will remain in your desk until I dismiss you.
  5. Sharpening your pencil – Raise the pencil to indicate that you need to sharpen your pencil. I will acknowledge your request, and you may leave your desk to sharpen your pencil.
  6. Coming to class without materials – If you do not have a pencil, I will exchange your student ID for one. When you return the pencil, I will return your student ID. Students should bring their chrome books to school every day. Chrome books should be charged.
  7. Sleeping in class – You will not sleep in my class. Stay focused and on task. Your time is valuable, and so is mine.
  8. Asking a question – You will raise your hand, and wait to be acknowledged.
  9. When someone knocks on the door – Please do not yell “come in.” The door is locked at all times for your safety. I will answer the door. If a guest enters the classroom, you should stay on task. DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR FOR ANYONE INCLUDING PRINCIPAL, SUPERINTENDENT, OR ANOTHER TEACHER.
  10. Responding to emergency situations – signs will be posted in the classroom.
  • Code Green – building is being evacuated
  • Code Red – remain in class
  • Code Severe Weather – move to hallway
  1. Cheating – you will automatically receive a ZERO if you are caught cheating
  2. Seating arrangements – I will assign seats. Students will not move to another location unless directed by the teacher.
  3. When you are absent – All work is posted on Canvas. If a handout sheet was given on the day that you are absent, you will find it in the basket on the back table. That basket is labeled "while you were out."  You will have the allotted amount of time designated in the handbook to complete the assignment and return it to me.
  4. Homework – Homework will be given only if assignments are not finished in class. The exception to this would be the weekly discussion board.
  5. Turning in assignments – Assignments will be turned in through Canvas unless otherwise noted. When turning in assignments, it should include your name, assignment, period, and date. No name = no grade. No work = no grade.
  6. Collecting papers/assignments – The leader of each group will collect any papers or assignments and put them in assigned basket for that period.
  7. Going to the restroom – You will have three bathroom passes per nine weeks. Please use the time between classes to go to the restroom. If you have your bathroom pass at the end of the nine weeks, I will add 5 points to your exam!
  8. Eating/drinking in classroom – Food and drinks are not allowed.
  9. Late work – Ten points will be deducted for all late work.
  10. Missing work – A zero will be given for any missed work.
  11. Extra credit – You will have some opportunities to earn extra credit, please take advantage of it.

If you choose to break the rules, the following consequences will occur:
